Tetrarrhena turfosa N.G.Walsh APNI* 
Description: Rhizomatous perennial forming compact tufts to 1.3 m high.
Leaves with sheath tightly encircling culm, smooth, glabrous; ligule a ciliate rim to 0.5–1 mm long; blade tightly involute, 0.3–0.8 mm wide, terminating in a blunt, sometimes slightly swollen tip.
Inflorescence an erect, spike-like raceme 1–3 cm long. Spikelets 3–10 per raceme, subsessile, 4.8–6.8 mm long, often purplish. Glumes subequal, the upper usually slightly larger, ovate. Sterile lemmas oblong, blunt, 5–7-nerved, prominently raised and scabrid, lower c. 65% as long as spikelet, upper as long as the spikelet. Fertile lemma almost equal to upper sterile lemma, keeled, uniformly scaberulous, obscurely 5–7-nerved. Palea c. as long as lower lemma, membranous.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Usually grows in heathy and sedge-rich vegetation in swamps and fringing watercourses.
