Description: Tufted herb.
Leaves linear, flat, 3.5–23 cm long, 1–3.5 mm wide, often twisted; leaf edge pale, tuberculate; sheathing base 1–3 cm long, brown or reddish brown in colour, not shiny.
Scapes flat to subterete, 17–50 cm long, with 2–4 prominent raised ribs, ribs minutely tuberculate. Inflorescence ovoid or cylindrical, 5–22 mm long, 3–8 mm diam. Sterile bracts 2–6, often keeled. Fertile bracts obovate; central region brown; wings golden brown; margins apically lacerate to erose, apex notched. Lateral outer tepals obovate; central region greenish brown to brown, keel well developed, finely toothed; wings subequal to equal, golden brown; margins apically lacerate, apex lacerate. Style 3–4 mm long, branches c. 0.4 mm long.
Seed ovoid, 0.3–0.4 mm long.
Flowering: late spring to summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in damp or swampy areas, often in heath; north from Bundeena, inland to Warialda.
