Description: Ascending to erect annual herbs to 90 cm high, unbranched or much branched from base; branchlets glabrous or moderately hispidulous.
Leaves linear, 15–70 mm long, 0.2–2 mm wide, glabrous or sparsely hispidulous; base attenuate; apex acute or acuminate; margins recurved.
Flowers in lax terminal paniculiform cymes, paired or rarely 1 or 3 at nodes; peduncles unbranched or irregularly branched; pedicels 5–25 mm long; bracts leaf-like to 10 mm long. Calyx 1–2 mm diameter; lobes triangular, 0.5–1 mm long. Corolla white to pale mauve,glabrous outside, with a ring of hairs at base of lobes; tube 1–6(9) mm long; lobes ovate or elliptic, 1–4(6) mm long. Stamens partly or completely exserted from corolla tube. Style usually exserted from corolla tube.
Capsule sub globose or depressed obovoid, 1.5–3 mm long, 2–4 mm wide, slightly furrowed; 'beak' equal to or exserted from persistent calyx lobes. Seeds many, dish-shaped, oblong or broadly elliptic in outline; surface reticulate or reticulate-areolate.
