Family Aspleniaceae

Description: Terrestrial or epiphytic ferns; rhizome creeping or ± erect, covered with clathrate scales; stipes not articulated to the rhizome.

Fronds simple and either undivided or lobed or 1–3-pinnate, vernation circinate; veins free or rarely anastomosing.

Sori elongated along the veins; indusium elongate and membranous when present.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 6–14 genera, c. 700 species, widespread. Australia: 2 genera, 32 species, all States.
