Genus Beilschmiedia Family Lauraceae

Description: Trees.

Leaves alternate, reticulum coarse, not distinctly areolate.

Flowers in axillary panicles at end of branches, often appearing terminal. Flowers bisexual, 3-merous. Perianth segments 6, not persistent. Stamens 9 [or 6], anthers 2-locular; 2 outer whorls dehiscing introrsely, glandless, inner whorl dehiscing extrorsely, with glands; whorl of staminodes to inside of fertile anthers.

Drupe ovoid or globose; seated directly on the pedicel, pedicel not swollen.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 200 species, mainly tropical regions, Africa, Asia, Malesia, Australia, Pacific islands, America. Australia: 11 species (10 species endemic, 1 species native), Qld, N.S.W.
