Ripogonum brevifolium Conran & Clifford APNI*

Description: Climber with stems to c. 10 m long, sometimes shrub-like; stems mostly glabrous, sometimes young stems sparsely pubescent, usually without prickles.

Leaves opposite or alternate, lamina usually ± elliptic, 3–8 cm long, 1.5–3 cm wide or rarely broad-elliptic and to 5 cm wide, apex acute, base tapering into petiole, lamina glabrous, ± stiff; petiole 4–8 mm long, twisted and often ± flattened.

Inflorescence axillary, many-flowered, glabrous; flowers sessile. Tepals 6–8 mm long, creamish. Stamens 6–9 mm long.

Berry globose, 8–15 mm diam., black; seeds 1-few.


Flowering: winter–spring.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in dry rainforest, north from Bulahdelah area.
