Description: Perennial herb covered with minute stellate scales, not spiny.

Leaves reniform, 1–3 cm long, very unequal at base.

Flowers mostly solitary, on peduncles 15–25 mm long. Calyx 5–9 mm long, with acute lobes. Corolla 15 mm long, 10–30 mm diam.

Fruit conical, 5–6 mm diam., enclosed by papery calyx, pubescent; mericarps 6–10.


Distribution and occurrence: Uncommon weed on irrigated land. Native of Western U.S.A.
