Acacia ptychoclada Maiden & Blakely APNI*

Description: Erect or spreading shrub 1.5–2.5 m high; bark smooth, brown; branchlets angled with distinct ridges, becoming terete with ridges, clothed with minute, subappressed, white-hyaline hairs and scattered dark resin-hairs.

Phyllodes straight to slightly curved, terete or 4-angled, 4–8 cm long, 0.6–1 mm wide, sparsely hairy, glabrescent, 3 longitudinal veins prominent (sometimes only 1 or 2), apex pungent-pointed or subacute with a mucro; 1 small gland near base; pulvinus 1–2 mm long.

Inflorescences simple, 1 or 2 in axil of phyllodes; peduncles 3–4 mm long, minutely hairy with white-hyaline and dark reddish hairs; heads globose, 25–40-flowered, 5–7 mm diam., bright yellow or pale yellow to ± white.

Pods ± straight, ± flat except slightly raised over seeds, ± straight-sided or barely constricted between seeds, 1–6 cm long, 3.5–5 mm wide, firmly papery, with scattered whitish hairs and minute reddish brown granules; seeds longitudinal; funicle expanded towards seed.

Distribution and occurrence: from near Woodford to Mt Victoria in the Blue Mtns.

Grows usually in damp and swampy sites on sandstone.
